Shelter Children’s Home (also known as Simba Village) is a home to over 138 children, many of whom were abused, vulnerable or orphaned, rescue from early marriages and from FGM.
Shelter began as a women project in the year 1994 formerly being known as Shelter Women of Kenya. A group of women came together to help the street children and those from poor families.
Provide children with quality education and life skills in order to mould a wholesome citizen.
Advocate for child care and total eradication of any form of child abuse.
Promote children's rights.
Provide opportunities to pursue lifetime goals and attain ultimate personal fulfilment.
Comprises of Pre-school (early childhood education), primary school, secondary school and tertiary education (university and middle level colleges).
Entails feeding, heathcare, counseling, accomodation and recreation.
Reintegration of the children with their families and society through family tracing, home visits, follow ups, assessments and capacity building.
Provision of basic needs to the target children, which include shelter, food, clothing, health care, education and recreation activities.
Rehabilitation of children by enabling them to acquire human dignity, self reliance and self esteem through counseling, life skills development, spiritual nourishment, continuous assessment and capacity building.
Empowering and engaging community on issues regarding children rights through such forums as training and seminars, capacity building sessions, networking with local leaders and religious organizations.
Since inception we have provided care and support to over 500 children.
We have continued to advocate for the rights of children in the community as well as sensitize the community on the value of education to every child.
We have continuously carried out family visits to help re-integrate the children to the families of alternative care placement.
Through our support many children have been able to be self-reliant many of them working in various fields and also in entrepreneurship.
Through our intervention in the community FGM & Early marriages have reduced.
We have created job opportunities to the surrounding community.
Some of the children we’ve brought up are now married and have families which they are able to take care of.
